My Fitness Journey

My fitness journey began in high school, driven by a desire to overcome bullying related to my short stature, slender build, and accent. One day, I came across a bodybuilding magazine at a local supermarket. That discovery lit a fire within me. I became fascinated by strength training and began teaching myself everything I could about fitness—and it changed my life.

After school, I would head straight to the gym. As I grew in size and strength, I also grew in confidence. I refused to let my past define me and instead used fitness as a path to empowerment.

The summer before my sophomore year, I joined the wrestling team after training with my cousin. At first, I hesitated—especially when I realized one of my former bullies was also on the team. But I stuck with it, showing up to every practice and pushing myself harder each day. I attended free wrestling camps, trained relentlessly, and steadily built my skills.

By junior year, I earned a .500 varsity wrestling record. In my senior year, I was all in. I wrestled anyone without a partner, regardless of their weight class, ran every sprint at full effort, and learned how to manage my nutrition to stay within my weight class. My coaches recognized my commitment and selected me as one of the team captains. I finished the season with a second-place District finish and qualified for Regionals.

After high school, I enrolled at Bergen Community College. Unfortunately, financial challenges forced me to step away after just a few months. But my passion for fitness never left. In 2003, I began working at Bally’s Total Fitness, where I gained valuable hands-on experience and learned training techniques from experienced coaches and managers. I earned my NASM certification to expand my knowledge and better serve clients.

Since then, I’ve worked across the fitness industry as a coach, manager, and business owner. My current fitness venture is approaching its 10-year anniversary. Over the past two decades, I’ve helped hundreds of clients build healthier habits, improve their performance, and transform their lives through movement, mindset, and consistency.

My Wellness Journey

Over 31 years ago, my life changed forever when my mother became seriously ill. Despite numerous visits to doctors, no one could explain her severe hemorrhaging, joint pain, or emotional fatigue. She had lost the will to keep going.

By God’s grace, she found a homeopathic natural health doctor—and within just six months, her symptoms began to fade. Slowly but surely, we watched her regain her energy, joy, and zest for life.

That experience awakened in us a deep curiosity and respect for holistic healing. My mother eventually became a certified natural health professional and opened a wellness store in our hometown. Although we’ve moved and no longer own the store, she remains my lifelong mentor in the world of natural living. Together, we continue to explore the power of holistic alternatives and their positive effects on the human body and spirit.

We are grateful for modern medicine and the doctors who change lives every day. But we also believe this: our health is ultimately our responsibility. And for us, that journey starts with a holistic lifestyle—mind, body, and soul.

From Healing to Movement: My Calling in Fitness

Later in life, I faced my own physical challenges and discovered how vital exercise is for healing and longevity. That realization inspired me to become a certified personal trainer in my late 40s through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)—an organization known for its evidence-based and inclusive approach to fitness for people of all backgrounds.

I went on to create Mindful Simple Solutions LLC, and today, I am also proudly partnered with Dependable Fitness.

To me, fitness is not just about staying in shape—it’s about aging gracefully, building resilience, and honoring the body as a gift.
